Attention/Intention Practice

The Attention/Intention Practice is presented in a one-day introduction format.  It requires a pre-requisite of an established Centering Prayer practice.  The Practice emerges from the dispositions of listening, consent and surrender found in Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina.  These practices develop within us an ardent desire to know the moment-to-moment presence of the Divine Indwelling through prayerful attentiveness in the ordinariness of everyday activity.  But this desire can be easily stifled in a world filled with too much complexity, fragmentation, noise, stimulation and haste.  What is the solution?  It is not to separate ourselves from the world but to live in the world from the Divine Center Who abides in us and can speak in us and through us at all times - if we listen.  In the one-day introduction to the Attention/Intention Practice, the participants will learn a practical approach to help them abide in the Divine Presence as they prepare dinner, help their children with their homework, take a phone call from a telemarketer, go shopping in the local mall, attend a contentious business meeting or simply walk down the street.  They will learn how to practice Mary's prayerful listening attentiveness during Martha's activity and service, gradually uniting Mary and Martha that is in all of us.
